Definition and Usage

The min-width property sets the minimum width of an element.

Note: The min-width property does not include padding, borders, or margins!

Default value: 0
Inherited: no
Version: CSS2
JavaScript syntax: object.style.minWidth="10px"

The min-width property is supported in all major browsers.

Note: No versions of Internet Explorer (including IE8) support the property value "inherit".


Property Values

Value Description
length Defines the minimum width in px, cm, etc. 
% Defines the minimum width in percent of the containing block
inherit Specifies that the value of the min-width property should be inherited from the parent element
