Definition and Usage

The letter-spacing property increases or decreases the space between characters in a text.

Default value: normal
Inherited: yes
Version: CSS1
JavaScript syntax: object.style.letterSpacing="3px"

The letter-spacing property is supported in all major browsers.

Note: No versions of Internet Explorer (including IE8) support the property value "inherit".


Property Values

Value Description
normal No extra space between characters. This is default
length Defines an extra space between characters (negative values are allowed)
inherit Specifies that the value of the letter-spacing property should be inherited from the parent element
